Lille's Jonathan David has become the first player in the club's history to score more than 20 goals in a single season, after netting four goals in the team's latest match against Strasbourg on Sunday.
David, who joined Lille from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven last summer for a reported fee of €15 million ($16.9 million), has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions so far. His efforts have helped Lille to climb up the French league table and secure their place in Europe next season.
The striker's achievement is particularly impressive given that he was only signed as a backup option for forward Kylian Mbappe. However, David's consistency and skill have seen him rise above his role, becoming a key player for Lille and contributing significantly to their success this season.
With David's goal against Strasbourg, Lille have now scored 77 goals in 26 games this season, which is the highest total in the league.
